This paper focuses on the vertical ammonia synthesis reactor, of high importance in the national economy, the product being used as raw material for chemical fertilizers, polymers, industrial coolers. The work deals with both the modeling and the control of the ammonia synthesis reactor. At first a nonlinear model based on fundamental equations from chemical engineering is presented. Due to its complexity a simplified linear operational model is determined and used further on in the control design step. Both determined models are validated using experimental data.
