Abstract
Semantic Web appears as the much awaited technology of the future, an extension of the current Web, where the information receives a structured meaning used by intelligent agents to better find and process the web data. Microformats, designed both for humans and machines, are amongst the first steps towards this desideratum. The current paper concentrates on presenting following aspects: the integration of Microformats into worldwide academic environments, the implementation of three Microformats (hCard, hCalendar and hAudio) into the “Politehnica” University Distance Learning Center’s portal and the students’ response regarding this new technology.
