Abstract
Headache is a very common disorder amongst working population. Diagnosis of primary headache types in working people regarding that headache represents health as well as social and economic problem is discussed in this paper. Migraine affects at least 12% of the adult population in the United States. It is estimated that migraine accounts for over 110 million lost workdays per year, and it has a substantial impact on workplace and home productivity. Approximately 13 billion dollars per year are lost through reduced work productivity in the United States. Migraine is the most expensive neurological problem in the European Community costing 27 billion euros annually. The differential diagnosis of headaches is one of the longest in medicine. The diagnostic criteria developed by the International Headache Society (IHS) have been used in epidemiological researches, but there is no such tool, which helps physicians make diagnoses. The rule-based fuzzy logic method is considered to be a successful technique for knowledge based decision making in many domains, including medicine. This research focused on diagnosing primary headache types in working people employing the rule-based fuzzy logic system (RBFL). The rules were facilitated by the application of the IHS criteria for headache types. Clinical experience was used to extend the established rules and improve the system. The proposed system is in the starting phase of the implementation at the Clinical Centre Vojvodina, Institute of Neurology in Novi Sad.
