Vol: 49(63) No: 3 / September 2004 How are the Attribute Linguistic Domains Involved in Database Fuzzy Queries Evaluation Cornelia Tudorie Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University Dunarea de Jos, Galati, Domneasca 111, 800201 Galati, ROMANIA, e-mail: Cornelia.Tudorie@ugal.ro Luminita Dumitriu Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University Dunarea de Jos, Galati, Domneasca 111, 800201 Galati, ROMANIA, e-mail: Luminita.Dumitriu@ugal.ro Keywords: database, flexible query, vague criteria, fuzzy logic, linguistic variable Abstract Database fuzzy queries include vague terms in selection criteria. Contrary to the classical crisp criterion, the fuzzy criterion refers linguistic values of the attribute linguistic domains. Some theoretical considerations on the attribute linguistic domains and an implemented software system for their definition are presented in the paper. A classical type of fuzzy query based on linguistic values and an original one, are compared. The paper also presents the two corresponding procedures, involving a priori defined, or dynamically defined linguistic values. References [1] I. Androutsopoulos, G.D. Ritchie and P.
