Abstract
This paper is aimed to present an innovative and efficient solution of wireless monitoring of a computerized city using Safe Mobile units, based on S4I development platform. For communication, the system is using various networks of vehicular units; these units are able to communicate both with each other and with central gateway servers. Also, Safe Mobile units can contact and be contacted by the central dispatch entity. Safe Mobile exploits the technical and functional characteristics of the units, the result being the availability of various correct and safe communication channels, within the solution. The interface with the end user can be represented either by a client hosted application or by a web hosted application. Both applications receive real-time data from the monitored units and can send out the commands. The applications are hosted in the cloud and are developed using the S4I intelligent platform. In practice, Safe Mobile was implemented in an airport, which was fully equipped with system’s units; the experimental results showed that safety can be assured at establishments’ and city’s level if this solution is adopted. Safe Mobile brings major achievements to the wireless communication in vehicular networks, the most important one being the reduction of the amount of time in which an emergency situation is identified and solved. Other advantages are effective usage of cloud computing features, safe communication channels and last, but not least, user friendly interface.
