Abstract
The key factors to enjoy a competitive advantage in today’s B2C e-commerce environments are the quick response time to customer orders and the offer of a large variety of products. This paper reports on the work in progress of the development on an e-commerce supermarket system – SUM, to enable both a high degree in the customer satisfaction and an improved profitability of the manufacturing companies. This will be achieved by enriching the range of products a manufacturer can sell directly to the end customer as make-to-order products. The paper briefly summarizes the strategic objectives of the SUM project, the concepts and software architecture of the SUM system and the current status of a prototype implementation.
