Abstract
Manual calibration of dial gauges using gauge blocks is a time consuming, monotone and errorprone process. As relatively large datasets are involved the probability of human errors is large both in capturing measuring data and in the evaluation process. To maintain competitiveness among the calibration laboratories automation is compulsory. Our paper describes a calibration system, which consists of high precision piezomotor based positioning system and a linear measuring scale providing submicron resolution. They are directly controlled by a personal computer through an AD/DA board. The control program is responsible for moving the gauge tip according to the selected standard and at the same time to capture the gauge data, insert it into an Excel table for later evaluation.
